I work mostly with clear acrylic using the optical qualities of the acrylic to compliment my use of colour, pattern and texture. I also use silver to “set” some of my pieces.
Combining transparent glazes with gold leaf and using multi layering I create richly textured and highly visual wearable pieces some as multiples and some as one-off pieces. My range of work includes rings, pendants, bangles, earrings, brooches and cufflinks.
Currently the way I am creating the final look is by using hand cut stencils which allow me to lay in transparent glazes and opaque colours, working directly onto the back of the acrylic as if working on glass. Using white and yellow gold leaf and lacquer behind this layer achieves the metallic and iridescent effects. Finally a protective layer on the back allows for wearability.
Since leaving Brighton University in 1982, I have designed and made jewellery which I have sold and exhibited throughout Europe, the USA Canada, Australia and Japan. |
