The landscape is the main inspiration for my artistic practice and, in particular, the East Anglian Coast.
I’m also fascinated by the way the weather and changing seasons affect the sea, sky and landscape marking the passage of time. The coast with its vast stretches of open space extending away to the horizon, indicating the junction between earth and sky, gives me a sense for freedom, calm and escape and it’s these feelings that I aim to capture in my work.
Painting with watercolour, acrylic and oils, I work in a fluid, expressive style to portray the atmosphere of a place and time rather than specific topographical detail.
I completed a BA Hons. in Fine Art at Stourbridge in the West Midlands in the early 1980’s and, in 2007, returned to study for an MA in Fine Art at the Norwich University College of the Arts which I successfully passed in 2009. |
