I make drawings of the coastal landscape near my studio and use these to begin making the paintings. The drawings are records of observations in the landscape and are some kind of direct drawn response. In the studio the drawings are used to guide an improvised series of tries at finding ways of making the image new and vital; I want something that is unexpected, un-premeditated and that feels true. Recent exhibitions include Messum’s, Agnew’s, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Toronto International Art Fair and the University of Essex. My work is represented by Messum’s in London and by Walton Fine Art in Suffolk. |
